Avila Beach Sunrise,
Avila Beach, South facing beach nestled in a cove, just North of Pismo Beach. Cabrillo anchored in this safe harbor: trade with the Chumash Indians occurred.
Humpback Whales, are sited in plenty in the early summer months playing in the calm waters of the Bay.
1873, first Pier, Port San Luis, was built, to bring mail and supplies for San Luis Obispo. Today it is used for commercial fishing, restaurant, and water sport activities. The Cal Poly Pier, is used for marine studies and research.
The pier seen in this photo is the Avila Pier. The Beach is Special, small and quaint; Reflecting the San Luis Obispo Life Style, of Small Town Charm that has made SLO special and desirable. Art of the Central Coast draws inspiration from Natures Wonder!!
Avila Beach, authentic California Small beach town, has drawn Big National attention thru #Amgen Tour of California. SLO, is a Strong supporter of fitness and the Outdoor Life Style. Avila Beach Concerts at the Cove, engages Small town with Big names at outdoor music festivals. Music is Very celebrated here!
Between the storms, we were amazed by this awesome Sunrise! The colors immersed, and filled the sky like the forth of July. As the Stars faded the light show began, the Ocean reflected the colors of the sky and the light opened up the cove of Avila Beach, that is Nature's Gift to the Art of the Central Coast!!

I took this Iconic photo of the Mail Pouch Barn at the base of Bishop Peak in San Luis Obispo in 1985. I hiked up the hill north of Highway One leading to Morro Bay and photographed the barn in the beautiful spring colors.
In 1925, Chew Mail Pouch Tobacco, was painted on barn rooftops and silos across the USA. This was referred to a "barnstorming". In general the farmer agreed to have his roof repaired in exchange for allowing the Advertisement to be place on the roof or side of the building.
This Mail Pouch Barn in SanLuis Obispo has been painted by many early California Plein Air Painters as early as 1928. At that time Highway One was just a one lane road that would eventually turn into a dirt road north of Morro bay.
Today, my photograph graces many collections, both private and public and has been published in print numerous times.
Bishop Peak, is one of the Seven Sister's of San Luis Obispo. The Seven Sisters are ancient amazing volcanic mountains, starting in San Luis Obispo at Islay Peak in the vineyards east of town in the Edna Valley Vineyards and stretching 20 miles to Morro Rock and the Pacific Ocean. Actually there are 21 major and minor peaks according to the Sierra Club.
San Luis Obispo, is the hub of the county. A very active and charming community. We thrive on outdoor living, encouraging and promoting outdoor health and fitness.
There are amazing trails up to the top of Bishop Peak and on your way up, enjoy the views, tree forrest, grazing cattle, and the abundance of Natures Wild Life!!
Though civilization has encroached on the hills behind the Mail Pouch Barn , Its still remains as a reminder of the past and the beautiful community that makes up San Luis Obispo County.
